General ESL (Core Curriculum)
Accent Reduction (3 hrs/week)
Focus on improving confidence, clarity, and
accuracy in speech by targeting sounds, rhythm and
accurate pronunciation of standard American English.
Learn to articulate vowels and consonants, and
appropriately use intonation, stress patterns, and
communication strategies.
Listening & Speaking (3
hrs/week)
Learn to speak clearly and persuasively using
effective pronunciation and conversational strategies, and
develop confidence and fluency through oral presentations,
skits and speeches.
Composition & Grammar (3
hrs/week)
Learn to write clearly, confidently and
persuasively by constructing meaningful and
grammatically-accurate sentences, improving real-life
writing skills using email and technology, and writing
organized and coherent paragraphs and essays.
Reading & Vocabulary (3
hrs/week)
Learn to read critically and confidently through
essential reading strategies, rapid vocabulary
development, and increased comprehension of abstract
concepts and idea-relationships.
Culture & Worldview (3
hrs/week)
Learn to discover core American values and
culture through real-life observations, interviews,
lectures, videos, readings, and comparisons of American
beliefs and behaviors.
English Conversation Groups (3
hrs/week)
These fun groups help students practice
conversational English, learn American culture, and make
friends with native English speakers in
small conversation groups.
